Metrea announced today that the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has recently expanded their contract with Metrea Simulations (MSIM) by adding a high-fidelity, virtual F-16 flight model and cockpit. Currently, Metrea Simulations is under contract with DIU as the sole software provider for their Virtual Training for Air Dominance (VTRAD) program. Using NOR, Metrea Simulations’ high-fidelity simulation platform, Metrea Simulations will build both the virtual F-16 and a previously awarded T-38C prototype paired with a high fidelity synthetic environment to support the U.S. Air Force Air Education and Training Command’s Fighter Bomber Fundamental Course.
The NOR simulation platform leverages the power of the commercial gaming ecosystem, using Unreal Engine 5 to deliver fully immersive and physics-based simulation, from an individual pilot with a virtual reality headset, through mixed-reality sim rigs, up to full physical simulators.
“Being awarded an additional contract through DIU’s VTRAD program is a testament to the urgent need for a new solution to simulated military training,” said Niclas Colliander, Managing Director of Metrea Simulations. “NOR is designed to continuously deliver the innovation of the commercial gaming ecosystem to national security customers to help improve advanced military training.”
About Metrea
Metrea established Metrea Simulations, its synthetics-focused business unit, in 2018, and quietly began to build NOR, the military simulation platform that leverages Unreal Engine, the world’s premier gaming technology. With development continuing apace for NOR’s Air Tactics Trainer module, tactical aviation users will continue benefiting from the constant feature rollout at ultimate-fidelity standards, while increasingly leveraging NOR’s rapidly maturing multi-domain, multi-level, and multi-use case architecture.
Metrea Simulations is a part of Metrea. Metrea provides effects-as-a-service to national security partners in five domains and over a dozen mission-centric solution areas, including airborne ISR, electronic warfare, communications, aerial refueling, space-based ISR, and advanced simulation. Metrea Simulations is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden tapping into Sweden’s vibrant gaming and technology communities. Metrea is headquartered in Washington, DC with facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, and the EU.
